Password and permissions

At least 8 characters. Use a password manager if you can.

Lets a document owner change permissions later. If left blank, the open password is used for both.

There is no recovery. Lovely Tools does not store your password, and the encrypted copy cannot be opened without it. Keep the original and store the password safely.

Encrypt and download

Add a PDF and choose a password.

Your PDF is opened and rebuilt inside this tab. There is no upload endpoint, no waiting in a queue, and no copy stored anywhere. How local processing works.

The short version

How it works.

No installer, no sign-up, and no second app to open. The work happens in the browser you already have, using the file already on your device.

  1. Open the PDF

Choose the document you want to protect. Lovely Tools reads it locally and confirms the page count.

  2. Set a password

Enter the open password twice. Optionally set an owner password and turn off printing or copying. Use a password you can store safely.

  3. Encrypt and download

Create the protected copy and download it. From then on, a PDF reader will ask for the password before opening the file.

Fine print, without the runaround

Good to know.

Every tool has a boundary. These are the ones worth knowing before you start, so the result is not a surprise.

There is no recovery

Lovely Tools does not store your password. If it is lost, the encrypted copy cannot be opened. Keep the original and the password in a safe place.

Permissions are reader-enforced

Restrictions on printing or copying are widely respected by PDF readers but can be bypassed by specialist tools. Encryption protects opening the file; it is not absolute control over its contents.

Questions

Asked and answered.

Still stuck? Write to info@lovelytools.site.

How strong is the encryption?

The tool uses AES-256, the current standard for PDF encryption. The protection is only as strong as the password you choose, so avoid short or reused passwords.

Can I remove the password later?

Yes, if you know the password. Use the Unlock PDF tool to create an unprotected copy. Without the password, the file cannot be opened.

Is the PDF uploaded to encrypt it?

No. The PDF is encrypted in this browser using the Web Crypto API. Neither the document nor its password is sent anywhere.
